Rationale
For this project, we were required to create packaging for a breakfast product. The target audience was children and we had to include an educational aspect while still making it look aesthetically pleasing in order to catch the attention of the children and have them personally pick out the product rather than their parents choosing it for them.
For my particular packaging, I decided to design milk packaging as it is an essential part of the breakfast whether it be to add to cereal or for coffee or any other hot beverage. More than this, looking at the actual colour of the milk -this obviously being white- I acknowledged that it is the same colour as ice-caps and therefore decided to incorporate this into my design. This design element can be seen at the front of my packaging, where it is see-through. Looking at the see-through part of the packaging you will see, a bear, fish, mountains, ice-caps and lastly a stream. As the milk goes down, it will appear as if the ice caps are melting – thus creating awareness. The packaging further includes facts about global warming, in order for the children to understand the problem and hopefully be part of the solution.
Additionally, I further made the front of the packaging see-through as from my personal experience, you only realise that the milk is just about finish once who cereal has already been poured or your tea brewed. This will therefore help alleviate this problem.
The final aspect of my packaging, is the geometric design. This was done to create a unique selling point, as their packaging is like no other milk packaging currently present in the market. The geometric design further provides many different areas to include information, thus allowing no information to be missed.
